So why pigs? We enjoyed working with the sheep so much, and love eating bacon so decided it was time to know where our bacon came from, and to contribute to the RBST mission to save rare breeds.
We are currently taking orders for piglets to finish and fatten. With the success of the Saddle Backs in 2015, then the Black Lops in 2016, we have decided to go even rareer in 2017 and we now work with the British Land Race pigs.
We sell our pigs as meat around September time, so please order well in advance to avoid disappointment. You can purchase a whole pig for £300, ½ pig for £150 and ¼ for £75. For 2019, we all also be offering bacon and sausage packs.
Our pigs are reared outdoors in plenty of space, having a mixture of grazing and woodland to play in.
The pigs travel just 10 minutes / 6 miles to our local butcher. We stay with the pigs right until the end to ensure they are not stressed and that they are treated with the upmost respect. We encourage all buyers to meet the animals so they can see how happy they are! We also supply the Moorcock Inn at Norland Moor with pigs.
At our canal side smallholding we specialise in rare breed sheep and pigs, producing wool, fleece, rugs and many more products. The site is also equipped with 6 cosy holiday cabins where you can stay and enjoy both the farm and surrounding countryside.
